The Kraken are legendary sea monsters, said to dwell in the deep oceans, first appeared in the Norse sagas. The legend may actually have originated from sightings of real giant squid.

Humankind has been looking for the giant squid (Architeuthis) for a very long time, but the elusive deep-sea predator could never be caught on film. Now, oceanographer and inventor Edith Widder and her team captured the giant squid on film for the first time.
