The last week’s events with a meteorite that struck Russia and an asteroid passing by the Earth at a close range, the natural question is how rare or how common are meteorite impacts?
For the founder of the software companies Vizzuality and CartoDB, Javier de la Torre, these questions made him and his team create a historic interactive map of Earth with all impacts visualized.
The map can be found below and shows the locations on Earth where meteorites have struck in history. What kind of space rock they were, what mass they had and which year the remains of the meteorites.
